The Washington Post wrote an article entitled, “Scientists have captured Earth's climate over the last 485 million years. Here's the surprising place we stand now”. The article details a research study, published by Science, and called “A 485-million-year history of Earth’s surface temperature”.
The article states “An ambitious effort to understand the Earth’s climate over the past 485 million years has revealed a history of wild shifts and far hotter temperatures than scientists previously realized — offering a reminder of how much change the planet has already endured and a warning about the unprecedented rate of warming caused by humans”, further states, “At its hottest, the study suggests, the Earth’s average temperature reached 96.8 degrees Fahrenheit (36 degrees Celsius) — far higher than the historic 58.96 F (14.98 C) the planet hit last year”
Considering the temperatures shown in the graphic below, the word “historic” should not be an adjective related to the current temperatures - not even close. I have marked “today” on the chart.
The researchers say they evaluated 150,000 pieces of fossil evidence and “state of the art” computer models to arrive at their 485 million-year assessment.
But never fear, the advocacy is here. Referring to Emily Judd, a researcher at the University of Arizona and an author of the study, the article continues “At no point in the nearly half-billion years that Judd and her colleagues analyzed did the Earth change as fast as it is changing now, she added: “In the same way as a massive asteroid hitting the Earth, what we’re doing now is unprecedented.”
While proving themselves wrong they simply state ‘stuff’ to prove themselves right.
Jess Tierney, a climate scientist at the University of Arizona and co-author of the study, states, “Carbon dioxide is really that master dial. That’s an important message … in terms of understanding why emissions from fossil fuels are a problem today.” Earlier in the article it states, that the research concluded an “intimate link between carbon dioxide and global temperatures and reveals that the world was in a much warmer state for most of the history of complex animal life”.
The problem with the statement and Tierney’s assessment is that during ice ages, research on ice cores shows that carbon dioxide levels where 7 to 10 times higher than it is now.
Even when the scientific community runs into testimony that may result in disproving anthropogenic climate change blamed on the use of fossil fuels, other human activities, and farm animals, they flip the evidence to explain that it’s actually proof of their wishes.
