The Automobile Turmoil
CarShield, Endurance, and other car repair insurance companies are inundating the airwaves with promotional advertising, and people are buying their products. Why - You might wonder?
Some German car manufacturers are fighting for their very existence, while domestic producers are using creative accounting techniques to delay the recognition of the ineffectiveness of producing too many electric vehicles.
People are not buying these electric vehicles for the following reasons:
high purchase prices;
limited mileage range ;
lengthy charging times;
uncertainty in battery longevity;
shortages of rare earth materials for batteries;
insecurity of safe operations, especially in colder climates; and,
end of government subsidies.
As of 2026, 17 states and the District of Columbia have adopted zero-emission vehicle mandates. These legislated mandates require automakers to sell an increasing percentage of zero-emission vehicles, with many aiming for 100% zero-emission EV sales by 2035. Many British and European Union guidelines were more stringent. These political directives were regulated to reduce CO2 emissions from internal combustion engines (ICE).
While an increase in CO2 and the theory that it is generating climate change is a progressive political ruse, curative actions are necessitated to make the deception seem bona fide and to maintain the progressive vote.
In essence, some governing bodies autocratically mandated what vehicles people would buy, but the people did not buy in. Yet the automakers were made to adhere to government authority. Naturally, the financial losses for automakers have made the price of all new internal combustion engine vehicles skyrocket.
The current federal administration repealed all of the American mandates. However, the financial damage to the automakers will take some time to reverse.
As a further repercussion of this car chaos, used ICE vehicles are in short supply and costly. Inventories of used vehicles are further reduced as people maintain their vehicles for a longer period of time.
This episode illustrates the exact reverse of representative governance. Various legislative bodies are employing ideology over the desires of those they have sworn to represent.
