Dumping Debates
Christopher Monckton, going by the British title of nobility, Viscount Monckton of Brenchley went to University College, Cardiff, and attained a Masters Degree in Journalism. Marc Morano was a former Republican political aide to Senator Jim Inhofe. He has a bachelor's degree from George Mason University in political science. Noteworthy is that neither are climate scientists, climatologists, meteorologists, or geologists.
Monckton and Morano work in opposition to climate change theories through investigation, research, and writing. On Tuesday, October 18, the two were invited to debate at a moderated ‘Green Davos’ climate-change forum in London. With their climate change advocacy challengers withdrawing, the debate will not take place.
This is standard procedure for those representing support of climate change or global warming theory.
In 2017 President Donald Trump at the suggestion of former Obama administration official, Steve Koonin, called for a red team / blue team debate. This strategy Koonin said would clear out the politics and address the science of climate change. As well it would conclude whether or not the United States should withdraw from the Paris Climate Accord. In the end, the blue team (the climate change advocates) declined to debate suggesting that the 97% consensus was adequate and sufficient evidence.
I have written many times on the fictitious 97%. The value was obtained from a survey of research papers written on climate change. However, a research paper on this survey concluded, “According to the results, only 64 of their 11,944 abstracts (or 0.5%) explicitly said that climate change was mostly human-caused. We examined those 64 and found only 41 (so only 0.3%) actually endorsed the claimed “consensus”.
After knowing these values how can anyone accept a consensus or agreement of 97%? The answer is relatively simple – no one questions it. Further, climate change supporters consistently say that a debate gives the skeptics credibility, to which I say their denial of debate gives them “chickenshitism”.
As Dr. John Christy, the Distinguished Professor of Atmospheric Science and Director of the Earth System Science Center at The University of Alabama in Huntsville says, “Here we have a science that’s so dominated by personalities that claim the science is settled, yet when you walk up to them and say prove it, they can’t”.
That is the bona fide reason for refusing to debate - outside of their echo chamber, they would lose.
