Mealworms for the Masses
As John Kerry flies to every corner of the world in his private taxpayer-funded jet, loudly exclaiming a climate endangerment, I very much doubt he chows down on exquisitely-cooked insects, even with a complimentary helping of Heinz ketchup.
I hesitate to believe this happens in the halls of Congress, at the World Economic Forum, or in the cavernous dining rooms of the Hollywood aristocracy, those that feeblemindedly join the virtue-signaling climate crowd. Certainly, their climate king Leonardo DiCaprio doesn’t present a gourmet dish of succulent cicadas on his 318-foot superyacht.
I distrust that mealworms or any larvae are headed for Buckingham Palace anytime soon. Prince Charles has made many climate change predictions, now long ago proven foolish, while his late father said, "In the event that I am reincarnated, I would like to return as a deadly virus, to contribute something to solving overpopulation." I’m quite apprehensive that these will replace the oft-served beef rib roast and Yorkshire pudding.
The Aspire Food Group while headquartered in Austin, Texas has constructed the world’s largest edible cricket processing plant across the northern border, in London, Ontario. It is interesting to read their article on the facility and despite saying “We want o give the crickets the healthiest, low stress environment possible”, it still doesn’t make me want to eat them. However, the article comes across as being a loving, nurturing environment for the crickets just before crushing the chirp out of them.
In 2008 Michael Shellenberger was awarded Hero of the Environment and recipient of the Green Book Award. Shellenberger was an admitted Berkley leftist environmental zealot. He now runs an organization called Environmental Progress. Shellenberger transformed himself from an environmental fanatic into an energy realist. His first published book is called, “Apocalypse Never: Why Environmental Alarmism Hurts Us All” a rendering that exposes the hypocrisy of the green, self-serving elite. In 2021 he published his second book, “San Fransicko : Why Progressives Ruin Cities”.
In this linked article, “It sounds like a conspiracy theory, but it’s not: they really *do* want you to eat bugs”, Shellenberger discusses how collectivist politicians seriously think the commoners, the peons, and peasants need to learn to eat insects.
Absurdly, while the radical green community wants you to eat bugs, they condemn all forms of genetically engineered plants, fruits, and other edibles. They denounce any meat product where the animal has been fed a GMO product. Fortified foods like protein-rich golden rice are attacked, even though rice is the world’s most eaten food. The reality is that most food products are, or have been, genetically engineered all ready - some quite long ago.
Forbes in the linked article claims that even today, “over 2.5 billion people regularly eat insects” and as Shellenberger discovers they would much prefer meat but are simply too poor to acquire it. This food is intended for the serfs of society and not the delicate palates of the elitist ruling class.
The National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) a division of the National Institute of Health (NIH) concluded in 2019 that “Parasites were detected 81% of 300 examined insect farms. In 30% of cases, parasites were potentially pathogenic for humans. Edible insects are an underestimated reservoir of human and animal parasites.” Thus, the limousine liberals say these rules, regulations, and even foods are made for thee but not for me.
Like the massive roundabouts seen in large European cities, the world of climate change advocacy has many outlets where its political proponents, bureaucratic allies, and wealthy patrons pretend to protect the proletariat, while truthfully following Malthusian theory for the masses.
