My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys
The cattle statistics below are from October 22, 2022, and are rated or classified by the number of cattle per capita. The first four (4) countries on the list have more cattle than people - Uruguay, New Zealand, Argentina, and Brazil. India has the most cattle at 305 million. The reason for a large number of cows in India is because of their status as cherished and respected living beings to adherents of Hinduism, Sikhism, Jainism, and Buddhism.
There are nine states in the United States that have more cattle than people. These are shown in the table below:
George Monbiot is a British writer with a degree in Zoology. He matches academic achievement and boisterous climate alarmism with Canada’s David Suzuki. In the linked video clip he is interviewed by RTE Prime Time, a Current Affairs program of Ireland's National Broadcaster, RTE (Raidió Teilifís Éireann - Irish for "Radio & Television of Ireland" ).
With volcanic explosions from the movie Dante’s Peak, playing in the background, Monbiot says of climate change he has been warning and warning and warning and that we have to change the economic system. In his response to the next question, scenes from the movie Twister were played. In that response, he claims, among all categories, agriculture is the largest contributor to a changing climate. As the graph below shows, most climate alarmists disagree.
However, one must keep in mind while looking at the chart above, the .00421% in the following chart represents all of the human-generated CO2 emissions tallied in all of the categories above.
As with many climate radicals, Monbiot wants to impose mandatory veganism. He declares that we need to abolish all animal farming or “we will have a domineering effect of systems collapse” which “will make the planet uninhabitable” and “eating meat and milk and eggs is an indulgence we cannot afford.”
Shortly thereafter as Monbiot continues, RTE plays some clips of a KKK rally with their racist ritual of cross-burning and somewhat later destructive scenes from “Independence Day”. It seems the movie selections accentuate and underscore Monbiot’s radicalism.
Monbiot is from a nation that has 701.1 people per square mile while being interviewed by a nation that has 184.7 people per square mile. In claiming agricultural land use he is obviously localizing animal farming as well as his prejudicial perception of climate change. On the other hand, the United States and Canada have 87 and 11 persons per square mile respectively. Another contribution to Monbiot’s radicalization would be his history with the zealous British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).
Several years ago, climbing the rugged mountains of Montana, my wife and I never ran into any wildlife except a couple of smaller moose, yet on those same mountains up to the tree line were cattle and lots of them. They were summer grazing on BLM leases. Thinking back to those lofty mountains, I do not recall any arable ground for growing volumes of potatoes, corn, peas, and other vegan favorites. There was especially no suitable ground for kale, quinoa, or kohlrabi!
We have also hiked the deserts of Arizona. Where we found water troughs, we found cattle. We would ponder on what they could possibly eat, yet those dried and fried lands produced some of the fattest cattle I had ever seen.
Not long ago I discovered that the percentage of urbanization and roads consumed only 5% of the United States. The problem with land use is an issue embedded in history. Early settlements were created on the best agricultural lands consistent with ease of transportation – usually water. As civilization and societies progressed cities were built where settlements once stood, thus the best agricultural lands, for growing produce are typically consumed by urban sprawl. This expansion continues to this day and is not covered in any manner by Monbiot’s loony tirade.
In conclusion, near the very beginning of Monbiot’s interview (39 seconds in), he says, “We need drastic, immediate change now. We have left it too late for anything else. We have to change the economic system.” In these statements, we have the true intent and design of climate change - a path of economic transformation to authoritarian socialism. Further, in quintessential liberal behavior, Monbiot is absolutely adamant that the entire world needs to bow to his emotional cravings. Many in the conservative opposition simply affirm letting liberals believe or say what they want, yet there is never a reciprocal or compromising action. They insist that there are no other creeds, cultures, or views except theirs.
