Regressive Progressivism
Among ardent readers and I may be in the minority, but I have never read a Stephen King novel. The content and context of a composition are all subjective and we all know the essence and substance of a King novel. About the banning of books, King says, "Book banners insist that the entire community should see things their way, and only their way. When a book is banned, a whole set of thoughts is locked behind the assertion that there is only one valid set of values, one valid set of beliefs, and one valid perception of the world. It's a scary idea, especially in a society which has been built on the ideas of free choice and free thought." King has a short essay on his thoughts on the matter which I link here.
Most important are the words and intent of “the entire community should see things their way, and only their way.” I have written on this matter several times and chewed on it, ad nauseum. A specific section of society, using their own distorted sense of moral virtue and values wants everything, not just books, to be exactly as they desire and the balance of humanity needs to kneel, follow and adhere. The other sector of society is compelled by freedoms and liberties and willing to allow others to behave, act and operate in any lawful manner they wish, but not to tread on the principles and ethics of others. Essentially the anthem of the non-progressive population is Ray Coniff’s 1966 song, “Happiness is Different Things to Different People”
No book should ever be banned but instead, be only available and accessible in accordance with age appropriateness. Progressives have a relentless and incessant need for change, thus societal matters have a tendency to constantly and continually regress. Irrespective of the decay and deterioration, anyone in opposition to these changes, is rebuked and reprimanded with insults and excessively derogatory censures. Terms like denier, racist, homophobe, sexist, misogynist, supremacist, extremist, and bigot are undeservedly but maliciously thrown about like buckets of baseballs at a spring training camp.
The fanaticism and zealotry of the leftist woke have grown in leaps and bounds in the last decade and there are attempts to normalize what has been previously forbidden, prohibited, or certainly challenged as disturbing. Much of today’s conventional progressive behavior would have been scorned as completely inappropriate just a few short years ago.
Progressives use imaginative moral messaging to deceptively illustrate the goodness and decency of their beliefs. They employ skilled language that sounds righteous and honorable and it is always about how their principles and guidelines protect the citizenry. The health of the people, both physically and mentally, is behind every lecture, while distorted reprimands of the opposition conjure up a societal disaster.
In an effort to rewrite history, to better merge with their convictions, not only are books being banned, there is the demolition of historic statues, abolition of constitutionality, mass inflows of migrants, elimination of meritocracy, naming opposition groups as extremists, and supremacists, relaxing laws on specific organizations and societal minorities, the application of fatuous pronouns and several other strange and unreasonable mandates.
Climate Change is a progressive political pursuit. Related to climate change, the secretary-general of the United Nations António Guterres recently said, “I see a lack of ambition, a lack of trust, a lack of support, a lack of cooperation, and an abundance of problems around clarity and credibility.” Hopefully, he actually sees and feels those sentiments and that people are awakening.
“Your silence gives consent.”
