Return on Investment - Not So Good
One quadrillion written out is 1,000,000,000,000,000. That is a total of 15 zeros. That value translates to the cost ($US) of reaching ‘net zero’ by the year 2050. The climate change alarmists have defined net zero and the time frame as absolute essentials to prevent unmitigated climate devastation on the entire world.
Net Zero can be defined as “the state where carbon dioxide gas emissions from human activities, and removals of these gases, are in balance over a specified period.
Under all of the assumptions, mandates, and requirements to reach Net Zero, as prescribed by the proponent climate change science community, including the amount of warming caused by anthropogenic emissions of carbon dioxide and:
Curtailment of all coal, oil and gas;
Redesign of energy grids;
Manufacture plant-based meats and exterminate cattle;
Use electric cars only;
Fill the oceans and lands with windmills and solar panels;
Turn our thermostats down in winter and up in the summer;
Remove all the other CO2-generating amenities and conveniences we have come to know; and,
all countries participate in all CO2 reduction activities including China, India, and Russia,
we can expect the global temperatures to be reduced by 0.3 degrees Celsius or a little more than ½ degree Fahrenheit.
This was calculated and documented in a research paper by Dr. Richard Lindzen (Department of Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences, Massachusetts Institute of Technology), Dr. William Happer (Department of Physics, Princeton University), and Dr. W. A. van Wijngaarden (Department of Physics and Astronomy, York University, Toronto, Canada). I link that paper entitled, “Net Zero Averted Temperature Increase” here.
In case you don’t wish to click the link, the abstract, or intellectual conclusion, reads: “Using feedback-free estimates of the warming by increased atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) and observed rates of increase, we estimate that if the United States (U.S.) eliminated net CO2 emissions by the year 2050, this would avert a warming of 0.0084 ◦C (0.015 ◦F), which is below our ability to accurately measure. If the entire world forced net zero CO2 emissions by the year 2050, a warming of only 0.070 ◦C (0.13 ◦F) would be averted. If one assumes that the warming is a factor of 4 larger because of positive feedbacks, as asserted by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the warming averted by a net zero U.S. policy would still be very small, 0.034 ◦C (0.061 ◦F). For worldwide net zero emissions by 2050 and the 4-times larger IPCC climate sensitivity, the averted warming would be 0.28 ◦C (0.50 ◦F).”
While the commune of the climate change proponency and advocacy will quickly evaluate the paper citing that 99% disagree with its results, most will not even read it before their divergence of opinion. They will simply rely on the traditional progressive media and young protestors blocking the streets to show that it’s imaginary fluff – no factual science required.
In the background of their imagination process, the Lovin’ Spoonful sings “Do you Believe In Magic”.
