Stupid is a Stupid Word
People are often asked what new term, saying or axiom has become annoying, bothersome, or essentially quite irritating – my choice is “You can’t fix stupid”.
First, it doesn’t literally mean what it says. More often what the writer or speaker is actually saying is, “You are stupid because you don’t agree with me or my thought process, viewpoint, philosophy, or ideology”. It is often written in an echo chamber or group-think where ‘like’ minds forfeit any divergent thought. It is written where people all exist within a similar environment or under similar circumstances.
If you want to know how wrong the idiom is, think of a moronic thing you did in a much earlier time, a drunken time, or an immature time – we’ve all done them. Age, maturity, greater wisdom, or your mother likely made you fix ‘stupid’.
Today if it’s contrary to any of the trendy ‘woke’ issues like gender, race, or climate change it will often attain the status, “You can’t fix stupid”. Facts are never pertinent; these are effectively removed by the progressive mainstream news or censored by the leftist tech giants.
According to behavioral research science, “in a battle between logic and emotion, emotion will win over facts most of the time” and “80% of decision-making is emotional, and only 20% rational.
So I recognize and understand that in my struggle to show climate change is an alarmist fallacy, a truly uphill battle exists. For most people injected with a constant barrage of biased media coupled with forged photographs of ruined lands or sick animals, climate change takes on a look of reality - the study for the indoctrinated stops right there.
When a bombardment of destructive images from catastrophic weather events is shown, self-declared compassionate people begin to believe caustic people are responsible. No requirement to look further – someone must be blamed – it’s the modern “I’m offended and feel wronged” manner of logic.
Further, it is leftist liberal law now that certain ideological convictions and progressive decrees be believed and adhered to – whether or not rational, obedience is compulsory. To refute or refuse is considered immoral and punishable by censorship, expelling, and other forms of contemporary cancel culture. At a minimum, ad hominem attacks, name-calling, and being called racist are certain to come one's way.
These leftist commandments are ratified by emotion. Facts are merely impediments thus unwanted, unneeded, or twisted with reprisal. Leftist principle invokes sentiment – they want you to believe that what they are decreeing is long overdue fundamentalist behavior.
So when I get challenged by people whose eyes roll with programmed fervor and they begin to tell me about consensus and the good work of Greta, I instinctively know that in their case facts are lost and sentiment rules.
But I don’t utter “You can’t fix stupid” because it’s not stupidity at all – it’s become a societal failure of truth and recognition of legitimacy. One day all will learn that the fallacy of catastrophic anthropogenic global warming was a political myth. Unfortunately in the interim, many people will be harmed by the alarmism, the many deficiencies to be experienced and the abundant impairments caused.
