The Caste System Cometh
The 1.5° global temperature rise was established by the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS) an Intergovernmental Organization of 39 low-lying coastal and small island countries. They work closely with the United Nations especially the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) the arm of the UN that doles out climate reparations money. Thereafter, the 1.5° target was impetuously adopted by the Paris Climate Accord and has somehow become a political objective of climate alarmism. The 1.5° target is the rise above pre-industrial levels by the end of the century and is basically, like everything about climate change, a political threshold and not a scientific measure.
In a study by the Climate and Community Project at the University of California, Davis all cars being electric will not be enough to thwart a temperature rise, so people will have to abandon all private transportation. The largest concern with vehicle electrification is the massive amount of mining that would be required to create batteries. Eco-politicians\, activist bureaucrats, and the environmental green, in general, loathe mining, and it, like CO2 emissions, must be minimized or terminated wherever possible. With electric vehicles unsuitable for reaching the target, the report advocates for government policies that support walking, cycling, and, of course, mass transit.
To reduce dependence on private vehicles for work the report suggests, “densifying low-density suburbs while allowing more people to live in existing high-density urban spaces”, or in other words making suburbs much denser and more compact so people live in significantly smaller homes and become much more packed together. This was one of the intended goals of the intentionally ‘misnomered’ “Inflation Reduction Act”. The report concludes that people will be required to live in much smaller dwellings, with apartment blocks having undersized residences being the optimum habitat. Another strategy of the Inflation Reduction Act was an expenditure of millions for the construction of bicycle paths.
Perhaps the Biden Administration is setting a deceptive standard here. During the Covid pandemic, where possible federal employees numbering close to 2 million, were encouraged to work remotely from home. It would seem, however, even though the pandemic ended 1½ years ago more than 50% of these employees have not returned to their offices. In federal House Oversight Committee legislation which would force these employees to return to their work location, almost every Democrat rejected the bill. Here, I link an article on those shenanigans and the reasons why liberals would be hesitant to circumvent their payoffs from their favored federal employee unions.
In conclusion, the average environmentalist academic desires that we all live without personal privileges like private vehicles and live in crowded areas in compact matchbox apartments where temperatures are controlled by outside regulators for both heat (80°) and cold (60°). As well, we need a significantly lower standard of living. Yet, you can be assured that the World Economic Forum (WEF) crowd will be exempt from all such demands and a caste system will develop much along the same lines as that experienced in India.
