Unidirectional Monetizing at Google
Projectionism is an interesting concept in the world of political and ideological activity and those that serve its partisan needs. Essentially, the process is to condemn the opposition for what the condemner is actually doing. When projectionism is amalgamated with censorship, and it is met with success, then there is a clear winner with a very successful strategy. However, when a non-profit looking for donations can also generate revenue through ‘confirmation bias’ – gold mining begins!
This is the essence of the linked Guardian article, “Google let Daily Wire advertise on ‘climate change is a hoax’ searches.” In October of 2021, Google created a policy that in part read, “. . . our advertising and publisher partners who have expressed concerns about ads that run alongside or promote inaccurate claims about climate change”. Of course, by inaccurate claims, the partisan search firm implied, opposition science, opposing research, or divergent information”.
It was not that many years ago that profitability was the mainstay of every company. In large corporations, shareholders had to be satisfied by decent dividends or rising share prices – if shareholder values didn’t rise, executives fell. That may still be the foundation for many traditional corporations, but woke ideology, especially by corporate elites and executives, turns companies into ideological trendsetters, fashionable agencies of the left, and, in some cases, advancing a movement away from conventional capitalism. Many banking, investment, and technology firms have adopted this policy.
For some reason, Google abstained from their climate policy on behalf of The Daily Wire a conservative media company started by Ben Shapiro and Jeremy Boreing. The Center for Countering Digital Hate researched and discovered that Google was actually selling advertising to The Daily Wire when certain phrases relative to climate change were searched, sought, or pursued by Google users.
Some of these phrases included:
climate change is a hoax
climate change is a lie
why is climate change fake
climate change debunk
the real truth about wind turbines
is global warming a scam
the climate change scam
Because climate change is a political science and not a physical one, an intelligent advertiser would want their ad to be placed where their likely buyer, or in this case, contributor, would arrive. Since conservatives are less likely to judge anthropogenic climate change as credible, the Daily Wire was going to the places where their patrons were likely to show up. It’s sort of akin to a quote by the retired hockey player, Wayne Gretzky who said, “I skate to where the puck is going to be.”
However, this action is apparently acceptable only if the political ideology leans left. While the Center for Countering Digital Hate was using Google’s own policy to capture the tech giant’s mishandling of the Daily Wire situation, you can bet they and other leftwing organizations use this exact same technique to secure charitable donations for their own organizations.
The Center for Countering Digital Hate was essentially ensuring that a media company would henceforth be censoring the opposition. Furthermore, considering the name, ” Center for Countering Digital Hate” clearly illustrates that the leftist ideology of woke extends to climate change without the need for any scientific justification.
I find it ironic that the only example used was a “2016 article ‘9 Things You Need To Know About The Climate Change Hoax”, in which Aaron Bandler falsely claimed that there is no evidence that the Earth has been warming in recent years”. The fact is that after 1998, there was no warming until the year 2015, and as graphically shown in the linked article, there has been no warming now for over 8 years.
